Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about VAT.
What is Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT)?
Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT) is a non-invasive, energy-based alternative approach to wellness. It has been used for more than 40 years and works by harnessing the healing power of sound converted into vibration.
While energetically it works much like acupuncture, sound can penetrate much deeper into the body and is more effective than needles. Our bodies are composed mainly of water. During a VAT session, sonic vibrations set this water into motion at a deep cellular level, reverberating throughout the entire body. The molecules begin reacting and communicating with each other, leading to a sense of deep relaxation and a more balanced, healthier state of being.
What are the benefits of Vibroacoustic Therapy?
While VAT cannot cure you of any disease, it is an effective, drug-free modality that helps ease the symptoms of a number of conditions. Research and case studies have shown that VAT can help:
-
- Reduce stress and anxiety
- Improve sleep
- Alleviate pain from arthritis, injuries, cancer and treatments
- Ease breathing issues from asthma and COPD
- Reduce blood pressure and aid in circulation
- Speed rehabilitation after stroke, cardiac surgery, and knee and hip replacements
- Alleviate many of the symptoms of multiple sclerosis and other progressive neurological diseases and disorders such as Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease
You don’t need to have serious health issues to benefit from VAT. Many people love it because it relaxes you. It is a great stress reducer, and helps alleviate pain from old injuries, arthritis, and even muscle strain.
What happens during a VAT session?
VAT is conducted while you are fully clothed. During the session, you lie down directly on a specially designed device (lounge, massage table, etc.), embedded with transducers that transmit specific frequencies into vibrations.
Therapy lasts about 25 minutes. After the session is complete, you can review the outcome with your therapist and fine-tune the therapy to maximize the benefits of your course of treatment.
Who should not try Vibroacoustic Therapy?
VAT therapists do not treat people with:
- epilepsy or active seizure disorders
- very low blood pressure
- open wounds
- deep vein thrombus (DVT)
- a medical implant device that is affected by magnets
- a history of psychosis, panic disorders, severe anxiety or PTSD
- a severe cardiovascular condition
We also refrain from treating women who are pregnant (while no problems have ever been reported, we prefer to err on the side of caution by not administering VAT to pregnant women in the first trimester).
If you are concerned that you have a contraindication with VAT, please consult your physician before trying vibroacoustic therapy.
What are the limitations of Vibroacoustic Therapy?
Vibroacoustic therapists do not diagnose medical conditions, nor do they cure diseases or conditions. Always consult with your physician before starting any treatment program. As is the case with all modalities, there is no way to guarantee results. What we can say is that VAT, like most therapies, is most effective when done with consistency. Repetition is required to receive desired results.
Where are you located?
2793 Old Post Rd, Suite 11, Harrisburg, PA 17110 next to Reiki By Rickie and ReikiSpace.
The closest major crossroads are Linglestown Road and Progress Avenue.
What should I do to prepare for a session?
VAT is most effective when you are hydrated, and you haven’t eaten for 2 hours. It also helps to not drink alcohol, or ingest drugs in the last 24 hours. If you are prone to inflammation, you should avoid dairy or wheat before the session.
Is there any research to support VAT?
There is a lot of research on VAT. The most significant study was in 1996 with the Next Wave Chair.
How does VAT differ from vibration plates?
Vibration plates excellent for physical fitness tools. They use high-speed motors to force muscle contraction, build strength, and stimulate bone density while standing. So using vibration plates requires spatial awareness, balance and coordination.
Vibroacoustic beds are more beneficial psychologically and physiologically. They use low-frequency sound waves that to relax the nervous system while you are lying down. Using vibroacoustic beds results in better sleep, less stress and anxiety, and also some physical perks like reducing aches and pains and lowering blood pressure. The mind-body connection is the “secret sauce” that allows you to heal yourself naturally.
